Independent Newspapers Limited, Publishers of the Daily Independent titles has picked Dr. Godswill Akpabio and Mike Adenuga as its man of the year 2009.
The Governor who won the award as a result of his leadership qualities got honoured alongside Mr. Mike Adenuga Jnr, Chairman of Globacom who was represented by an Executive Director in Globacom Communications was also picked as a result of his entreprenurial skill and expertise businessÂ initiative and his contribution to particularly the development of the telecommunications industry in Nigeria.
Speaking, Governor of Gombe State Mohammed Danjuma Goje, Chairman of the occasion while
congratulating Akpabio said that he is glad that Daily independent has joined the rank of other medium to scrutinise those in governance and business to honour them for their performances.
He praised Akpabio for transforming the educational sector of his state, whilst he noted that the picking of Akpabio and Adenuga was timely and precise.
On the part of Adenuga, he said, â€œAdenuga has been a brand name in Nigeria and internationally, he pointed that the transformation of National Oil to Connoil is to tell what he has for the Nigerian business environment.
Contributing, Prof. Dora Akunyili, Minister of Information and Communication said the honour done the awardees shows that Daily independent newspaper means business, mas a result of the choice of candidates picked.
She thanked the publisher of the daily Independent titles and the management for the support she has received in her campaign so far on the re- branding project.
According to her, â€œWhen we look at this honours , you are inspiring them to work harder, this also will inspire our young generations;Â when excellence is not honoured, laxity will take pre-eminence.â€ she stated.
