A ghastly auto accident involving a commercial J5 Peugeot which ran into a trailer while attempting to over take a Toyota Carina carÂ on Friday claimed the lives of 15 people in Gunu, s suburb of Minna , Niger state capital.
The accident which occurred along Minna_Sarkin Pawa_Kaduna road at about 8.30 am left a heavy flow of traffic as sympathizers, villagers and travelers rushed to rescue both the victims and survivors.
According to eye witness account, the J5 bus with registration number ( Niger ) AA 788 MSG while attempting to overtake a Carina car at a bend when it ran headlong into a Minna bound trailer with number ( Lagos ) XL 44 GGE.
The driver of the trailer tried to avoid the J5 bus but his effort only led to the tripping off of its body which fell on the J5 bus, killing fifteen passengers and injuring seventeen others.
The Carina car which three occupants survived the accident was equally damaged by the impact of the collision and the fall of the body of the trailer on the bus.
The quick intervention of villagers and other travelers saw the 17 survivors of the accident, while the 10 bodies of the victims were taken to the Minna General Hospital Mortuary, by a state government owned bus while three others were taken by a Good Samaritan.
At the time of filing this report, the death toll had increased to 15 because two survivors died at the Gunu Basic Rural Hospital .
