FRSC goes tough on traffic offenders

By Chidi Nkwopara

OWERRI—Imo State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, says it would no longer only book traffic offenders but will also subject them to compulsory classroom drill on road safety regulations.

The Imo State Sector Commander, Mr. Angus Ibezim, made this known in a chat with Vanguard in Owerri.

“The challenges confronting the command are enormous, one of which remains the flagrant flouting of traffic regulations by some government convoy drivers, who in most cases harass, intimidate and chase other road users off their right of way,” Ibezim said.

Lamenting that the convoy drivers disorganise lane discipline and cause road accidents with impunity, he implored government to “muster enough political will to stop the menace to prove that law is also no respecter of persons.”

He recalled with grief that the recklessness, impatience and non-use of safety helmets by commercial motorcyclists  had increased the number of head injuries and death in the state.
