Flemming threatens ANLCA’s election over Shittu’s entrance

By Godwin Oritse
THE crisis-ridden Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents may be heading for trouble as one of the presidential candidates, Dr Flemming Momodu has threatened to oppose Prince Olayiwola Shittu’s entrance into the race.

Speaking to newsmen in Lagos recently, Momodu said that Shittu cannot be a contestant in an election where he is an umpire.

Dr Momodu stated that Shittu’s entrance into the race is morally unjustifiable adding that he will do everything possible to ensure that Shittu is not included in the race.

He explained that the association has since inception over 50 years ago been in crisis and they as leaders of the group, have done everything possible to ensure that these crises are resolved and move the group forward.

He was of the opinion that Shittu’s coming into the presidential race is sending a very wrong and disastrous signal to the larger group.

He said that if most of the current contestants knew that Shittu would later join the race, they would never have thought of running for elections.

He, however, accused some members of the Board of Trustees of wanting to use Shittu as a stooge for their shortcomings and to cover up their dirty businesses in the ports.

His words: “Shittu and his group have an agenda, there are some members of the Board of Trustees of ANLCA that want to use Olayiwola Shittu as a stooge for their shortcomings because we understand that there are some of them that collect money from Mearskline and that is why nobody is speaking up against the shipping company and the illegalities being perpetrated in the ports.

“They are on the payroll of Maerskline and that was why they rigged the elections at Apapa chapter and installed their accomplices as leaders of the chapter.”

Dr Momodu disclosed that he is already perfecting the court papers to file a suit against Prince Olayiwola Shittu just as he promised to expose Shittu’s dirty deals in the ports at the Eastern zone of the country.

Speaking in a similar vein, Otunba Babatope Ogungbemile, one of the presidential aspirants said that Shittu has succeeded in deceiving everybody and this is not a good omen for the association. He said that if he knew that Shittu would run for elections, he would never have shown any interest in the first place.
