LAGOS — The 14-year old marriage of the Nollywood actor, Mr Segun Arinze Aina-Padonou and his estranged wife, Mrs Annette Aina-Padonou was yesterday dissolved by Justice Sybil Nwaka of an Ikeja High Court.

In a judgment delivered, the Judge granted the custody of the only child of the union, 13-year-old Morenike Chioma Aina-Padonou, to the mother, who did not enter appearance in the suit.

The Judge accepted the testimony of Arinze, that his marriage to Annette had broken down irreparably and irreconcilable, noting that his statements before the court were not controverted by any other evidence.

The Judge also agreed with the explanation by the Nollywood actor that the couple had been leaving apart in the past 11 years, leading to the total breakdown of the marriage.

The marriage of the couple was consummated before an Ikorodu Local Government Registry on May 10, 2009.

Granting the custody of the child to the mother, the judge, however, gave the father an unfettered access to the daughter, including her continuous upkeep.

Arinze had on May 25, 2009 during his testimony sought the leave of the court to legally separate the marriage, “so that I can go on with my life.”

He told the court that his marriage had “broken down irreparably and irreconcilably,” after the couple had been staying apart for 11 years.

He also promised to shoulder the responsibility of the daughter’s welfare and education.
