The Kwara Auditor-General, Mr Adekeye Samuel, has called for the  blockage of loopholes in public revenue generation.
He said the measure was the only panacea to improving revenue generation in the country. Samuel made the call on Wednesday in Ilorin in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). He suggested that government should discourage payment of cash to individuals, while all its revenue should be paid directly to its account.
“Once these are done, revenue generation will improve considerably,†he added. Samuel also advised the state government to embark on the massive development of the solid mineral sub-sector.
“The state can survive without relying on revenue from the Federation Account if the solid mineral sector is properly developed,†he added. The Auditor-General said the state government could also exploit the current economic recession to improve its revenue through the exploitation of its agricultural potential and youth empowerment. He advised the people of the state to look inward and contribute positively to the state’’s development.
