Anambra Assembly begins clearing of ANSIEC nominees

By Vincent Ujumadu

AWKA—THE Anambra State House of Assembly has commenced the process for clearing Governor Peter Obi’s nominees for the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission, ANSIEC,  which it earlier rejected on the ground that the bio-data of the nominees were not included when the list was forwarded to the House last year.

The decision to commence the screening of the nominees came on the heels of a resolution by the House congratulating the Governor on his victory in the recent governorship election.

The proposed ANSIEC, has Professor Titus Ezeh, a former Resident Electoral Commissioner for Kwara and Abia states as chairman, with the clergy and other technocrats as members.

Speaker of the House, Chief Anayo Nnebe at its sitting yesterday, said Governor Obi had forwarded the curriculum vitae of the nominees to the House and he subsequently refereed the matter to the House Committee on Election Matters, which he gave two weeks to report back to the whole House.
