Akunyili’s memo:It’s insubordination, says Dombraye

By Festus Ahon
UGHELLI — THE member representing Bomadi Local Government constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Mr. Reginald Dombraye, has described the recent outburst of Prof. Dora Akunyili as an act of insubordination.

He blamed the National Assembly for the vacuum created by the absence President Umaru Yar’Adua.

He said that whatever Nigerians, including the Governors’ Forum, were saying would not proffer solution to the political impasse, adding that all the National Assembly needed to do was to invoke the section of the constitution that deals on the issue.

According to Dombraye, “the outburst of Dora Akuyunli is an act of insubordination. If I was the President or Vice-President, I would have sacked her. Goodluck Jonathan should react to Akunyili’s action. I want to ask her to resign,”he said.

Dombraye, who stated this while fielding questions from newsmen in Bomadi, yesterday, said the utterances of some prominent Nigerians were capable of promoting chaos in the country and thereby truncating the country’s nascent democracy.

“For me all these calls that the president should handover power to the vice president is capable of causing bad blood between the president and his vice. They are trying to portray the vice president in a bad light before the president.

“Ordinarily, should anything happen to the president, the vice will take over. It is one ticket they have; the Yar’Adua / Jonathan ticket. For that reason, whether you like it or not the vice president is in charge since the president is not around.

“I do not think the vice president is support of all these calls and advice Nigerians to leave the vice president alone. Those clamouring for the resignation of the president are doing so for their personal interest and some of them are political sycophants.
