Dutse — A retired military officer, Captain Mohammed Danlami Garba, has advised Arewa elite to stop deceiving the North and the nation at large over the true condition of President Umaru  Yar’Adua, saying Nigerians need to take a decicive decision over the vacuum created by the absence of the president.

Garba who was the former sector commander with the FRSC in Kano said he was disappointed over the various statements by northern elite over the health of President Yar’aAdua, declaring that the 1999 constitution has spelt out what should be done if the president is incapacitated.

He then called on the northern elite not to force anybody on Vice President Goodluck Jonathan, if he eventually becomes the president, stressing that he should be allowed to freely choose his vice president that will complete the tenure with him.

Commending the leadership of Arewa Consultative Forum who came out to declare that in the event of a situation where President Yar’Adua’s health fails him, the constitutional provisions should be strictly followed to enable
Vice President Jonathan complete the tenure, warning that anything to the contrary may be costly.

On the speculations that the wife of the President, Hajiya Turai, is in the centre of the whole controversy because she refused to allow her sick husband to resign, he said a true Muslim wife would choose the health of her husband before any other thing.

Garba noted that President Yar’Adua had been out of office for over 30days, which according to him, is unusual and very costly for any nation because the vacuum created and an adventurer can capitalize on this to the detriment of the people.

He said the only reason Hajiya Turai must act now was that Nigerian nation was suffering because of the absence of her husband.

He added that in situations like this, President Yar’Adua should resign and allow the vice president to take over the mantle of leadership since he needed medical attention.

He said even in the Holy Quran when Prophet Mohammed was sick and could not lead his followers in prayers, he called on his closest assistant Sayyadina Abubakar Sadiq  to lead the congregational prayers.

The retired military officer further declared that Nigerians were going through very difficult stage in the history oof the nation, adding that all hands must be on the deck to salvage the situation without any sentiment.
