Women journalists pray for Yar’Adua, Maryam

IBADAN—National Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, yesterday organized an inter-religious prayer session for the quick recovery of President Umaru Yar’Adua and the repose of the soul of the former First Lady, Mrs. Maryam Babangida.

The programme which held at the Millennium Press Centre, Iyaganku, Ibadan, had in attendance previous Speakers of the Oyo State House of Assembly.

Also, members of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, from Osun, Lagos, Ekiti, Ondo and Oyo states attended the prayers.

The  NAWOJ National President, Alhaja Fatimah Abdul-Kareem, while speaking with newsmen at the event, said the prayers were called in view of the enormous role the former first lady had played in transforming lives of the down-trodden.

She spoke on why Nigerians should not develop cold attitude towards praying for the quick recuperation of the president.  “If the president is sick, the nation is sick.”
