Coach of Heartland Football Club of Owerri, Kelechi  Emeteole has said  that “no country can ignore the Super Eagles from this stage of the Nations Cup”, insisting that any opponent that does so can forget the competition.

Emeteole, who spoke on telephone, said it has been disheartening reading all what was said about the team since the competition began, expressed his anger at Nigerian football fans for not having faith in the Super Eagles with their incessant negative reactions to earlier group games played by the team.

“That is not how to support any team. We must learn to back our team all the time and never relent,” he enjoined Nigerians.

More than that, he was saddened by recent action of the football authorities who threatened Shaibu Amodu with a sack in the middle of a tournament saying  “I don’t like the way Nigerians have been attacking Amodu and the team. It is discouraging they should rather give them words of encouragement, not abuses,” he stated.

“The competition has been interesting in that we have seen the Eagles play so sluggishly at the beginning, and suddenly picked up and transformed into a winning side. I believe more of the good performance will come. I don’t think they will lower the game at this stage, but take it higher and higher. The same team people criticised have the capacity to spring surprises”he insisted.

Emeteole, who was an assistant to Amodu during his first time out as Eagles handler, showed his displeasure soon after the Eagles beat Mozambique Wednesday.

“Tell Nigerians to stop the attacks on the team. I don’t like the verbal attacks on our team and this whole disbelief in the technical ability of Shaibu Amodu amazes me. We have given him a job to do, so, let’s give him a chance to do it . That is not encouraging at all,” Kelechi yelled.
