Soldiers’ withdrawal from JTF in Edo, illegal – AC

The Action Congress (AC) has described the withdrawal of soldiers from the Joint Task Force (JTF) in Edo State as an illegal act and a ploy by the PDP and its collaborators to rig Saturday’s re-run poll in  Etsako local government.

In a statement issued in Lagos on Wednesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party also said the hurried redeployment of Edo Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC),  in line with the open boast by PDP’s Tony Anenih, is the clearest indication yet of the desperation of the PDP to rig the key election, which will determine who controls the State’s House of Assembly, between AC and the PDP.

It said the withdrawal of the soldiers from the JTF was a dangerous political game that could endanger the security of the people, the same people that the PDP wanted to coerce under its dog-eared umbrella government at all cost, “because the spate of kidnapping, armed robbery and murder that has fallen drastically in the state since the deployment of the soldiers will simply go up again.

“The withdrawal of the soldiers is a declaration of war against Edo people by the PDP, and it is aimed at creating the necessary atmosphere for PDP thugs, who are being ferried in from other places to overrun the police and hijack ballot boxes during the re-run.

“This is a high-wire political game that can trigger another crisis like what we currently have in Jos.”
