SIXTEEN teams have been slated to feature in the second annual maritime Football competition organised by Nigeria’s leading maritime media company, Ships & Ports Communication Company Limited.

Coordinator of the Ships & Ports Soccer Challenge, Eucharia Okoli, said the competition which kicks off from 10th of March this year aims to provide all operators and organizations in the maritime sector the opportunity to interact and build friendship with each other.

Okoli said that apart from seminars and conferences, stakeholders in the shipping sector have no other platform for interaction noting that even the seminars and conferences do not really bring together all the operators and organisations due to their various business interests.

The annual football competition, according to her, also aims to rekindle the spirit of sportsmanship in the sector.
“Essentially, the Ships & Ports Soccer Challenge has been designed as part of our effort aimed at fostering the spirit of friendship, cooperation, camaraderie and sportsmanship among the various organizations, companies and government agencies in the maritime sector.

“To this end, we invite all relevant organisations in the shipping sector to raise football teams and enter them for the two weeks competition which is billed to hold at the National Institute for Sports (NIS) Practice Pitch at the National Stadium, Lagos”, Okoli said

She said that the competition is occasioned by the general vision of Ships & Ports Communication Company to continue in bringing positive and constructive innovations to the Nigerian shipping and allied sector.
