Action continues at the practice pitch of the National Institute for Sports, Lagos as preliminaries of the football event of the 2010 Nigeria Oil and Gas Industry Games hot up. Top contenders, Shell recorded the biggest win so far, with a 6-0 bashing of Addax Oil on the opening day.

Wapara Prince of Shell scored a hat-trick in the match which also saw Laiyi Onibu, Obasi Innocent and Tima Kingsley scored the other three to complete the whitewash.

An official of Shell, Alex Onumbu told the press after the match that the team was prepared for the challenge ahead, remarking, “this is just the beginning. We want to win everything in this year’s games, that is why we have resolved to approach every opponent, every match with all the seriousness they deserve.”

In other matches, defending champions for the football event, NNPC were held to a 3-3 draw by Nigeria Agip Oil Company. Allen Wasimi of NNPC and Chidi Eluagu of Agip scored a brace each in the encounter while Total defeated NLNG 1- 0 to claim the three maximum points.

ExxonMobil were 2-0 better over Chevron in the last match of the opening day.On Day two, Shell and Agip Oil drew 1-1 while NNPC overwhelmed Addax 6-0 in a one-sided encounter decided early Monday morning.

In the afternoon session, NLNG and ExxonMobil played a 1-1 draw while Total and Chevron drew goaless.
The competition continues with the two leading teams, NNPC and Shell clashing in a top of the table confrontation today.
