PORT HARCOURT— CONTRACTORS handling construction projects for the Rivers State government are to be paid part of their money from the state’s savings.
Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi said this at the first Inter-ministerial meeting in the state this year.
According to the governor, the decision was to guard against any excuse for non- performance.
“Please release funds from our savings, not the compulsory N1 billion savings funds but from other savings so that contractors are made to complete all outstanding projects,†he said.
Meanwhile, the governor has also directed commissioners and other principal officers in the state to ensure they delivered, as there would be no room for excuses.
The governor told the officials that all on_going projects must be completed this year, so that government could also introduce fresh projects.
He warned that he would not take it lightly with any official who does not manage or deploy funds appropriately, adding that “this is not the time to play or misappropriate funds; we must deliver on all projects to take our people out of povertyâ€.
At the meeting were Commissioners, Special Advisers, Permanent Secretaries, Local Government Chairmen, and Heads of agencies, and Departments of Government.
