Osun State governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola yesterday dissolved the state executive council. The dissolution also affected the Chief of Staff to the governor, Mr Peter Babalola and the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Fatai Akinbade.
Speaking with newsmen in Osogbo yesterday, the former commissioner for Information and Youth Development, Alhaja Idiat Aderinto said the dissolution was approved by the state chapter of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
She stated that the governor expressed his gratitude to all members of the dissolved cabinet for their contribution to the socio-economic development of the state since their appointment.
According to her, the governor also wished the former cabinet members success in their future endeavours, saying his administration would continue to rely on their wealth of experience and support in the growth of the state.
Alhaja Aderinto disclosed that members of the dissolved cabinet expressed their gratitude to the governor for giving them the opportunity to serve the state.
Though no reason was given for the mass sack of the cabinet members, Vanguard gathered that the governor’s action may not be unconnected with the political aspiration of some of the dissolved cabinet members.
Specifically, the sacked SSG, Alhaji Akinbade and the Chief of Staff, Mr Babalola have publicly declared their intention to contest the governorship seat in the state ahead of the 2011 election.
Similarly, some commissioners including the former Commissioner for Works and Transport, Dr Bayo Faforiji and his Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs counterpart, Professor Muhib Opeloye have shown interest to vie for seats in the National Assembly.
