In pursuit of the strategic objective of giving back to communities around the Lekki Free trade Zone, Lekki Worldwide Investment Company Limited, the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) set up by the Lagos State Government to promote the Lekki Free Zone Project has donated a block of classrooms to the Ilege community, one of the communities in Ibeju Lekki whose land was acquired for the development of the Lekki Free Zone Project.
Speaking at the occasion of the commissioning of the block of classrooms completely re-built and handed over to LGA Primary School in Ilege, Ibeju Lekki, Ag.Managing Director of Lekki Worldwide, Mr. Ope George disclosed that, the company’s Corporate Social Investment (CSI) is deliberate, planned and strategic. According to him, Lekki Worldwide has together with the Lagos state Government chosen to begin with education amongst other things because of the need to ensure that preparations meet needs when they arise.
“If we support these children to get sound education now, we are preparing them for when the companies that will commence business in the zone will need manpower. They will no doubt need people who have had the benefit of education. So this is not a commonplace act of charity to score some cheap points but a strategic and well thought through investment in the future of the children in this part of Lagos State,†George disclosed.
He further assured that as the company continues with the development of the Lekki Free Zone, consistent attention will be given to identifying needs in the communities and responding to those needs in line with the strategic objectives of the company’s Corporate Social Investment (CSI) programme as espoused in its overall Triple Bottom-line Report commitment.
George explained that the company’s commitment to Triple bottom line (TBL) reporting is total pledging that Lekki Worldwide will continue to keep the Internationally acceptable standard for business organisations to continually report on people, planet and profit saying, “these will be the measure of our success as corporate citizens and nothing less will doâ€.
The concept of Triple Bottom Line Reporting demands that a company’s responsibility be to stakeholders who are people influenced, either directly or indirectly, by the actions of the company rather than to shareholders or investors alone. It requires that companies should commit to developing the lives of the people and the environment where they do business and make profit.
