Ecowas presents W/Africa 2010 outlook to members

ABUJA—The President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr. Mohamed Ibn Chambas, would today present the economic outlook for West Africa in 2010 to the region’s development partners during the 7th edition of the ECOWAS-development partners coordination meeting.

In his “Progress Report on the Regional Integration Process in West Africa: Stakes and Perspectives”, Dr Chambas is expected to project a 4.7 per cent growth for the region in 2010, higher than the 4.4 per cent recorded in 2009.

According to a statement, the President’s presentation will also highlight the achievements in the region’s community work programme “which will in 2010 focus on the negotiation of the economic partnership agreement with the European Union, the creation of a common market, regional infrastructure development, implementation of the agricultural policy, human development, institutional capacity building, private sector development and multilateral convergence”.
