BENINâ€”Edo State governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has assured landlords of buildings onÂ Airport Road in Benin City, demolished in the ongoing road dualisation project of compensation.
The governor, who was on an inspection tour of theÂ project yesterday, said there will be a meeting with the landlords whose houses were affected to discuss with government officials on appropriate compensation.
Oshiomhole said it was not the intention ofÂ government to subject them to inconveniencies, noting that the government will compensate those concerned to ensure that they erected buildings that met modern standard.
The governor expressed dissatisfaction with some landlords who are in a hurry to rebuild demolished portions of their houses without clearance from the Ministry of Lands and Housing.
He directed the Ministry of Lands and Survey to ensure that they defined the boundaries and assist the landlords define where to erect their fences, warning that any fence illegally erected will be pulled down.
According to the governor, it is not easy to modernise an old city. He appealed for patience from the people of the state.
