Christian leaders oppose calls for Yar’Adua’s resignation

By Sam Eyoboka & Olayinka Latona

While thousands of Nigerians besieged motor-parks for their onward return trips to their various locations after the Yuletide, others trooped to the different churches where pastors urged members to pray for the speedy recovery of President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua who is currently convalescing in a Saudi hospital.

In accordance with biblical injunctions to pray for those in authority, fervent prayers were offered to God on behalf of the president who has been out of the country for about 40 days for medical treatment in Saudi Arabia. Christian leaders were also unanimous in their opposition to calls for his resignation, saying that anybody is immune from sickness.

All the intercity motor-parks in Lagos were yesterday overstretched with activities as workers, youth corps members and students wishing to return to their various locations, struggled to buy tickets for their return trips.

Similarly, there was tremendous influx of worshippers to various churches were thousands had gone for the first thanksgiving service of the year for God making them to see a brand new year despite all the turbulence of the past year.
