Anxiety in Edo as Oshiomhole moves to sack 5 commissioners

By Simon Ebegbulem
BENIN—THERE is anxiety among members of Edo State Executive Council, as no fewer than five commissioners may be sacked by Governor Adams Oshiomhole next week.

Vanguard learnt that the decision was to afford the governor the opportunity to appoint those he believes could help him move his developmental projects faster in this New Year.

It was learnt that the commissioners to be shown the way out are those  regarded as “sleeping commissioners”, and are yet to meet up with the expectations of the Comrade governor.

Vanguard gathered that the major cabinet shake up would also afford the governor the opportunity to give some of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) decampees the opportunity to produce commissioners.

It was learnt, however, that those to be nominated must be qualified and would be personally screened by the governor to avoid mistakes.

The governor is said to be determined to urgently deliver the dividends of democracy to the people of the state and would not care whose ox is gored in this major shake up.

Vanguard was reliably informed that apart from the commissioners in the Ministries of Works, Environment, Finance, Budget and Planning, the positions of their colleagues in other ministries could not be guaranteed.

It was learnt that these categories of commissioners performed below expectation, as the Comrade governor is said not to be ready for further experimentation this year.
