Anambra : Uba unveils transport agenda

AWKA—The Labour Party gubernatorial candidate in the February 6 2010 election in Anambra State, Dr. Andy Uba, has promised the Anambra people a comprehensive transport programme that will ensure rapid economic growth for the state if he is elected into office.

According to a statement by his campaign office, Dr. Uba said,  “our thrust will be to focus on infrastructural development that will form the framework for an integrated and multi-model transport system, consisting of enviable inland waterways (with Onitsha River Port as a hub), viable urban and rural road networks (around the Onitsha-Nnewi-Ekwalobia-Awka axis), bulk handling and other shipping services, world class cargo airport (at Oba), and the connection of Anambra State to the national rail network.”

On road projects, Dr. Uba promised to proactively and progressively develop the state’s road network.

Specifically, the Labour Party gubernatorial candidate promised to construct durable asphalt roads to link all the local government headquarters to major communities.

To boast the state’s commercial and industrial growth, Dr. Uba noted that his administration will develop a functional river port at Onitsha.
