ABUJA—The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, will today deploy key personnel in the directorial cadre to Awka ahead of the 6 February election as Prof.Maurice Iwu insisted that all field officers must undergo an intensive training at the Electoral Institute.
It was reliably gathered weekend that field officers to help conduct the election were asked to attend a mandatory programme in preparation for the poll.
Most of the staff were mainly middle-level manpower of the commission as most of them were not in office from Monday through Friday last week.
Also, expected to start proceeding to Awka are directorial staff and some deputy secretaries to prepare grounds for the election.
As a measure of its confidence, the commission has re-deployed Electoral Officers, EOs, ahead of the election as well as relieved eight staff of the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission, ASIEC, for tampering with the voters’ register.
Prof. Iwu had also told newsmen last week when foreign observers paid him a visit that the apex electoral body had identified states from where personnel would be drawn from to conduct the election though such states were not disclosed.
Meanwhile, the commission has started screening journalists for the Anambra poll as only accredited correspondents will be allowed to cover it.
