…asks aggrieved PDP members to quit

ABUJA—The Abuja division of the Court of Appeal yesterday affirmed the nomination of former Governor of Central Bank, Professor Charles Soludo as the flag-bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the forth coming Anambra gubernatorial poll scheduled to hold on 6 February, this year.
The appellate court which unanimously entered the verdict yesterday, however, advised any member of the ruling PDP not satisfied with the position of the court to quit and join another political party.
Justice Uwani Abba’Aji delivered the lead judgment of the court yesterday.
Abba’Aji said the action of the PDP in nominating Soludo is in line with the constitution of the party.
Two aggrieved Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, members, Mr. Valentine Ozigbo and Mrs. Victoria Nwankwo are challenging the emergence of Soludo as PDP’s candidate for the election.
The respondents are PDP, Soludo and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
Nkoli Imoh and Ferdinand Okoye who had withdrawn as appellants in the case earlier joined the suit as respondents.
The court said yesterday that, “the entire grievance of the appellants is on the mode of selection of the respondent by the PDP.
“The court cannot decide on the issue because it is clearly a political issue which is not justiceable in the court of law.
“The issue of who should represent the party is clearly a political one”, the court said.
