Akhigbe to Anenih: Stay away from Etsako

By Simon Ebegbulem
BENIN—AHEAD tomorrow’s House of Assembly re-run election in Etsako Central local government area of Edo State, former Chief of General Staff, Admiral Mike Akhigbe, yesterday warned the former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees, Chief Tony Anenih, to stay away from the area or be “disgraced by Etsako people.”

Akhigbe is from Fugar, Etsako Central, where the re-run election would be held this weekend.

The retired admiral, who spoke to newsmen yesterday, alleged that he received reports from his people that “the Anenih faction of the PDP has been holding meetings on how to foment trouble here. Our community has resolved that if he comes here, he will be disgraced because he has never done anything for them.

The two candidates running for the election are children of Fugar and the one in AC went to AC because he was de-registered by Anenih and his cohorts in the PDP.

“My people have been worried that they heard that Anenih faction is coming here with arms to kill the people. But I told them that it will not happen. We have had refined policians here in the past, like Senator Lamai, M.C.K. Orbih and others. People do not die during elections and we will not allow it to start now.”

My people resolved that if any body comes here to kill one person, they will kill twenty and that is why I am telling Anenih now to stay away from Fugar, this is not his area.

“ Our people are angry here with Anenih because the Anegbette/Ekperi road which I awarded when I was in power, he came as Minister of Works and terminated the project. He has always punished my people and they are tired of him. I just finished a meeting with them and that was their message to me. That was why Anenih got Abbe to withdraw the army from the JTF because he knows that the army will not allow him to rig.

“I am aware that they held a meeting where they analysed the whole thing and they concluded that the army will be a problem for them. We are having this re-run now because I recalled that Oghiadohme and others were doing all sorts of things to cause trouble during that election and that was why it was cancelled. There was never election here.

The army even arrested some people and after the arrest they were handed over to the police but those people were later released. So I am warning that this election must be one man one vote and if Anenih thinks he can come and manipulate here, he will have him self to blame” he stated.
