300,000 Euro was spent on foreign trip, says witness

Abuja—A prosecution witness with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mr. Kazeem Oseni, yesterday, told an Abuja high court that an Austrian, one Mr. George Eder, who is the Managing Director of Avsatel Communication Ltd, a company that was awarded the safe tower project contract by erstwhile Aviation Minister, Prof.

Babalola Borishade, admitted to him under interrogation that he expended a total of 300,000 Euros organising foreign trips for top management staff of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, NAMA, and the Aviation Ministry when he was awarded the contract in 2006.

Oseni who testified on oath as the eight principal witness in the case, while under cross-examination by the defense counsel yesterday, further stated that Mr. Eder went ahead to alleged that he personally handed the sum of 15,000 Euros from the total money to the ex-Minister, an allegation he maintained was not followed-up by his team of investigators in the matter.

When he was asked how many times the accused persons traveled abroad in relation to the safe tower project, he conceded that Borishade from his investigations joined the trip on only one occasion.

“Our investigations revealed that members of the top echelon of NAMA, Aviation Ministry and NIMET traveled abroad on several occasions in respect of the project but to the best of my knowledge, the former Aviation Minister joined the trip to Vienna Austria only once and Mr. Eder under interrogation told me that he spent a total of 300,000 Euros to sponsor the trips” he stated.
