MAKURDI — Wife of the Benue State Governor, Mrs. Yemisi Dooshima Suswam has declared that Benue women would immortalise the late former First Lady of Nigeria, Mrs. Maryam Babangida through deliberate rededica-tion to the ideals she stood for while she was alive.

Mrs. Suswam described the former First Lady as a transformational woman leader who led an onslaught against poverty amongst Nigerian women through her pet project, Better Life for Rural Women.

The Benue State First Lady made this assertion when she led a delegation of Benue women to Minna, Niger State on a condolence visit to the family of former military President, General Ibrahim Babangida over the death of his wife.

Maryam led fruitful life

She said that Mrs. Babangida would not be forgotten in a hurry by Nigerian woman, emphasi-sing that the legacies she left behind are testimonials of her genuine commitments to the enhancement of the living condition of women in the country and Nigerians as a whole.

According to Mrs. Suswam, “she led a fruitful life and she achieved the purpose for which God created her and that is the more reason why I urge you to take comfort in her achievements as mother of all.”

Challenges children

Mrs. Suswam further implored the children of the deceased former First Lady to rededicate themselves to the principles their mother stood for and be so guided by them.

Responding on behalf of the children, Hajia Aisha Shinkafi expressed the joy of the Babangida family for the overwhelming show of love and support by the Benue women.

Former President Ibrahim Babangida, in his separate response, expressed gratitude to the Benue State First Lady and her delegation, describing her show of concern for the family as exemplary.
