Senate probes sack of NDLEA officer

By Emmanuel Aziken

ABUJA—The Senate Committee on Ethics and Public Petitions is investigating the sack of a female officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Mrs. Udeoji Tochukwu Francisca who was dismissed for marrying the love of her life, a driver.

The Senate investigation followed a petition by the dismissed officer to the Senate channeled through Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe (PDP, Abia South).

Presenting the petition, Abaribe had claimed that the petitioner was sacked because of love.

In the petition backed with documents including the letter of dismissal which cited “single parentage.” Mrs. Udeoji said she was dismissed for marrying beneath her status.

She deposed that her marriage to the driver was despite extensive investigations by intelligence officers of the NDLEA to determine the criminal record of her beau.

Though the NDDC in a confidential report to the NDLEA affirmed that her then fiancé was a diligent and committed staff of the commission, she noted that the confidential report was twisted to show that he was a drug courier for the simple reason that officials of the agency did not want them to marry.

She attached an affidavit from the husband to show that at that time he had neither traveled out of Nigeria nor possessed a passport.
