By Chidi Nkwopara

OWERRI—A middle-aged international businessman, identified as “Ubanese,” has been arrested by Imo State Police Command for his alleged involvement in the death of  a young lady.

Vanguard investigations revealed that the deceased lady, whose identity could not be ascertained at press time, was allegedly pushed out of the suspect’s fast moving Mercedes Benz ML series vehicle along the Nekede-Ihiagwa-Obinze road.

It was not clear if Ubanese and the late lady had any quarrel before the sad incident but an eye witness told Vanguard that the villagers quickly organized themselves, gave the man a hot chase and apprehended him.

The villagers also told Vanguard that the aggrieved citizens were about lynching him, as well as torch his storey building when the village vigilante operatives moved in to save the situation, adding that the villagers did not want their village to be linked with the lynching of Ubanese.

Ubanese, who resides in Ukraine and comes to Nigeria periodically, has lock-up shops and a storey building located at the Federal Polytechnic Junction, Nekede, while he is believed to be from one of the local council areas in Orlu senatorial zone of the state.

The remains of the lady had been deposited in the morgue of Federal Medical Centre, Owerri, while Ubanese is currently telling the police all he knew about the lady’s death.

When contacted, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Aloysius Okorie, confirmed the incident as well as the arrest of Ubanese.

“The Command is aware of the ugly incident that claimed the life of a young lady at Nekede. The man (Ubanese) is with us as I speak with you. We have commenced investigations into the matter,” Okorie said.
