PDP exco in Edo illegal — Oshiomhole govt

*‘Claim laughable’

By Simon Ebegbulem

Benin city-EDO State government has described the Chief Dan Orbih-led Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state as an illegal body, and declared that it may stop joining issues with any member of the state executive of the party.

In a statement signed by the director, poverty alleviation in the state, Mrs Evelyn Igbafe, the state government argued that the PDP in the state was illegal due to a high court order restraining the party from appointing anyone into the office of the chairman.

But, the PDP, through its publicity secretary, Chief Nosa Adams, described the statement as laughable, explaining that all those who sued the party had withdrawn their cases and Orbih was duly elected and sworn-in by the national leadership of the party.

The state government statement said: “As a product of due process and rule of law, the Governor Adams Oshiomhole-led government in the state would not be tempted to recognize illegality that Orbih and his executive represent. Orbih and PDP can be best described as lawless and drowning party desperately seeking  relevance. Edo people can no longer listen and believe a cabal led by one godfather that has deceived the people for so long.”

The PDP, in its counter position, asserted: “One would expect that having left the PDP over flimsy excuses, Igbafe should now concern herself with the AC.

We don’t know the business of somebody who is no longer in PDP still wanting to know what is happening there. Let her promote the ideals of democracy in her new party and stop intruding into other people’s affairs”.
