Orji hails Globacom’s youth empowerment initiative

UMUAHIA—Governor Theodore Orji of Abia State has commended national telecommunications operator, Globacom for initiating programmes that will secure the future of Nigerian youths and ensure the safety of corporate investments in the country.

Governor Orji, who gave the commendation in Umuahia at the launching of the first batch of the Glo/Abia State Youth Empowerment Programme, held at the Indoor Hall of the Orji Kalu Stadium, Umuahia, said with the programme, Globacom had helped the state to initiate moves that would in the long run take away the minds of youths in the state from all manners of antisocial behaviours.

The Abia State Youth Empowerment Programme, which is being executed in collaboration with Globacom, involves the provision of 500 Glo Profit SIMs, tables, chairs, parasoles, training faciliities and other accessories to Commercial Telephone Operators. The state government, through the Ministry of Youth Development, will ensure that youths drawn from the 17 council areas of the state benefit from the programme.

“I wish to sincerely commend the management of Glo Mobile for partnering with the government and people of Abia State.  There is a lot we can do together to build a society where corporate investments will be safe and secure,” the Governor said.

In her opening remarks, the state Commissioner for Youth Development, Dr. Roseline Ndimele, said that the enthusiastic way the youths embraced the programme showed that most youths were willing to pursue legitimate enterprises. She showered encomiums on Globacom for initiating the  project in Abia State.
