Kidnappers of aide to Edo First Lady demand N20m ransom

By Simon Ebegbulem
BENIN — THE kidnappers of the special assistant to the first Lady of Edo State, Mrs Clara Oshiomhole, are demanding N20 million ransom.

The whereabout of the General Manager of the Rapid Response Agency of Edo State government, Mr Isaac Osahon, who was abducted the same day is still unknown.

The demand of the kidnappers comes as a pastor with Deeper Life Bible Church, identified as Tada Ehondon, was abducted by armed men suspected to be kidnappers yesterday at his residence in Benin City.

It would be recalled that Governor Adams Oshiomhole recently launched a joint security outfit, tagged Operation Thunderstorm penultimate week and urged the operatives to stop the incessant incidents of kidnapping and violent crimes in the state.

But kidnapping has persisted, even after the president approved the deployment of soldiers to assist the mobile policemen already on ground.

Vanguard was reliably informed that the situation was giving the governor grave concern and has urged security agencies in the state to double their efforts.

The pastor, whose name was given as Tada Ehondon, was said to have been abducted on Monday night in front of his house at Ugbioko village, along Ekenwan Road, near Benin City .

It was learnt that the abductors of the special assistant to the first lady, identified as Mrs Omheme, opened contact with the family Tuesday night and are demanding N20 million to release her.

It is yet to be ascertained whether the same gang of kidnappers was the one that abducted the general manager of the Rapid Response Agency.

The two government officials were kidnapped separately last Monday.

However, spokesman of the police in the state, ASP Peter Ogboi, said “all efforts are being made to secure their release and that is all I can tell you for now”.
