Jonathan’s wife tasks women on child up-bringing

OWERRI—The wife of the Vice President, Dame Patience Goodluck-Jonathan, has challenged Nigerian mothers to bring up their children in the fear of God and at all times, to remain agents of peace.

Dame Goodluck-Jonathan gave the charge while speaking at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Parish, Umunakanu Ama, Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State, at the weekend.

“Women have a lot of duties to discharge in the family, state and nation. Mothers must learn to train our children in the fear of God. If mothers fail to properly train their children, they will end up being street urchins, kidnappers and armed robbers,” she said.

The Vice President’s wife explained that she was in Umunakanu Ama to witness the honouring of Mrs. Eunice Iwu, the mother of the Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Maurice Iwu, by the Catholic Parish.

Addressing the congregation also, Governor Ikedi Ohakim, Governor of the state, said that those who harass, steal, kidnap and commit all manner of crime in the society, obviously had terrible up-bringing.

Appealing to religious leaders to start doing their job of shepherding their flock, Ohakim, however, noted that this was the only way to put the society in the right direction.
