Jang wants case involving 26 suspected mercenaries reviewed

By Taye Obateru

Jos — Governor Jang of Plateau State has again frowned at the handling of the case of 26 suspected mercenaries arrested in the wake of last year’s crisis in the state, calling for a review of the case.

Speaking yesterday, at the opening of a conference of the Body of Attorneys-General, he said the decision to move the suspects to Abuja after which nothing has been heard on the matter was disturbing.

“Our government is worried about the procedure followed in handling the 26 mercenaries arrested in Jos on the heels of the November 2008 crisis in some part of Jos purportedly on their way to Bauchi in a vehicle with inscription of a local government in Kogi State.

These men were quickly taken to Abuja and since then we have not heard about the case,” he said.
