Injury threatens Nigeria’s Nations Cup

NIGERIA’s chances of making a meaningful impact in the Orange Nations Cup in Angola is being threatened  by injuries.

The injury list of the Eagles is rising at an alarming rate that only a miracle can see Nigeria parade their stars at full strength when the Nations Cup kicks off.

As at the time of this report, vice captain of the Eagles, Joseph Yobo was a major doubt for the Nations Cup after he cupped an hamstring injury.

Another defender, Danny Shittu is also recuperating from injury. Wolfsburg striker, Obafemi Martins who fired Nigeria into the World Cup with his strikes against the Harambee Stars in their last World Cup qualifier is also convalescing after a minor surgery that has kept him away from club duties.

Real Zaragoza striker and one of Nigeria’s reliable hotshots, Ikechukwu Uche is also down and out for the Nations Cup.

Speaking during the week, Ikechukwu said that only a miracle would see him fit to play during the Nations Cup. “I’m worried at the spate of injuries plaguing our players.

This is not the right time for our players to be getting injured. But there is nothing one can do about it because nobody prays for injury. Its difficult for me to assess myself.

It is only a miracle that can see me recover and play in the Nations Cup. It is sad that I am going to miss it but I wish I can play”, the player sobbed. He however said that Nigeria stands a great chance of doing well if some of the injured players recover to be part of the Angola football fiesta.
