OWERRI â€” Imo State Governor, Chief Ikedi Ohakim, has approved the immediate dissolution of the State Council of Traditional Rulers, headed by Eze Cletus Ilomuanya.
The governorâ€™s approval was made public in a press statement signedÂ by the Secretary to the Government of Imo State (SGI), Chief Cosmas Iwu, and aired on the airwaves of Imo Broadcasting Corporation (IBC).
The government also explained that the council was dissolved by the Governor in keeping with the rules of appointing and dissolving the council, which it said â€œis invested in the state Governor.
â€œThe dissolution is in line with Law Number 6 of 2006, following the expiration of the tenure of present Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers.â€
The government disclosed that the Governor thanked the outgoing chairman and members of the council for their invaluable services to the state during their tenure and wished them success in their future endeavours.
Vanguard recalls that only recently, the State House of Assembly amended the Law establishing the State Council of Traditional Rulers, fixing the chairmanâ€™s tenure at five years.
