Hoodlums kill policeman in Delta

WARRI—HOODLUMS went on the rampage at Effurun and Sapele in Delta State killing a policeman and disarming another one in the last few days.

Vanguard learnt that the bandits laid ambush for a police vehicle at the Bright Hope junction, on Airport Road in Effurun, Delta State and without provocation, opened fire on the policemen, killing one of them in the process.

Details of the incident were still hazy and the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the state, Charles Muka, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), told Vanguard when contacted yesterday that he was not aware of the incident yet.

At Sapele, gunmen also attacked a mobile policeman and took his rifle. ASP Muka confirmed the Sapele incident, saying the policemen was on a motor-cycle taking a motorcyclist to the police station when he was attacked and disarmed.
A source, however, said it was two policemen that were beaten to pulp by the gunmen and their guns taken away.
