Commissioner reads riot act to workers

By Austin Ogwuda
DELTA—DELTA State Commissioner for Housing, Mr. Frank Omare, has warned field officers in the ministry that stern disciplinary action awaited any of them that either colludes with contractors to shortchange the state government or indulges in hiding files, with a view to arm- twisting contractors for gratifications.

Handing down the warning in Asaba while addressing the field staff of the ministry from the 25 local government areas of the state, Omare said reports available to him  showed that sharp practices were going on unabated.

“But I must tell you that is why I called this meeting. Everyone has to sit up from next year. I will no longer get complaint that you give unnecessary conditions to contractors and indulge in hiding of files.

That must stop.
“By January next year, I will be going to the field personally. Certificates must reflect the actual work done and I tell you, do not have a reason in 2010 to hide files,” he warned.

He expressed regrets that in the past two years, the ministry had not commissioned any project. Said he: “I am worried that for two years, you have not commissioned any project. I will not fold my arms and watch that happen in 2010.”
