Anti-graft investigation : EFCC dumps Police for SSS

By Kingsley Omonobi

ABUJA—There were indications weekend that the Chairman of Economic and financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mrs. Farida Waziri, has elected to chart a new course in the affairs of financial crimes investigation in the anti-graft commission by dumping crack Police detectives from the commission and replacing them with operatives of the State security Services, SSS.

Towards this end, 28 senior Police officers attached to the EFCC were weekend, sent packing, to the Nigeria Police force headquarters, for what a source said was the fear that they might compromise their duties with regards to investigating financial crimes.

Though the source which furnished Vanguard with the story alleged that their redeployment to the force headquarters was based on the belief by the EFCC Chairman that they (Policemen) who are mostly of the Northern stock were sent packing because they were not only posted to EFCC during the tenure of Nuhu Ribadu, former EFCC boss and they were still very much loyal to Ribadu as he continued to get feedback on the activities of the Commission.

As a result of the development, it was further gathered that some senior police officers both in the Police hierarchy and the EFCC itself are marveled at the action of the EFCC Chairman, someone who by virtue of being a Police officer herself, got the anti-graft commission’s job.
