‘44 sacked Unilorin dons to be reinstated’

THE  Federal Government has declared that it will comply with the judgment of the Supreme Court which directed it to reinstate all the 44 sacked lecturers of the University of Ilorin, UNILORIN.

Reacting to the judgment which ordered that apart from reinstating the lecturers, all their salaries, allowances and other entitlements for the past eight years be paid to them, the minister of education, Dr Sam Egwu, stated that the government had no option than to comply with the judgment to the letter.

Egwu, who spoke with newsmen shortly after the convocation ceremony of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Ile-Ife yesterday, said that as a government that believes in the rule of law it will comply with the apex court judgment.

He described the three months strike action by  university teachers in the country as a dark period in the education sector, but added that the Federal Government will not renege on the agreement reached with the lecturers.

The minister stated that the Federal Government deserves commendation for taking a bold step to address the naughty issues between the university lecturers and government.
