Unions vow to resist imposition of rector

ADO-EKITI—As the  competition for the post of the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Ado Ekiti hots up, interest groups within the campus and the  three unions  in the institution have vowed to resist any attempt by the power- that-be  to impose any unpopular candidate on them.

The position of the Rector of the Polytechnic became vacant since May 2008, following  the completion of the tenure of Prof Olawumi Ajaja who spent eight years of two terms.

Vanguard  gathered that out of  about 20 academics  from across the country who have applied for the job, four of them were said to have been shortlisted for the plum job

The four shortlisted candidates are the acting Rector, Mr  M. O .Oyedeji, Mrs Taiwo Kande, a former Deputy Rector in the institution ,Mr Benjamin Abegunde and  Dr Okonta who is said to be from the Federal Polytechnic, Offa, Kwara State.

However, after the exit of the substantive Rector, the most senior staff, an economist who is also a lecturer in the Department of Business Administration, Elder Moses Olayiwola Oyedeji had been piloting the ship of the institution.
