UNFPA to parner Benue on HIV/AIDS, others

MAKURDI— The United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA) has pledged to partner the Benue State government in the areas of maternal and infant mortality, HIV/AIDS and gender issues.

Country Resident Representative of the UNFPA, Mrs. Agatha Lawson, gave this assurance while on a courtesy call on Governor Gabriel Suswam of Benue State in Makurdi.

She said her mission to the state was to see that women enjoyed a healthy life, assuring that the UNFPA would support policies and programmes of the government to reduce poverty and also ensure that every birth in the state was safe while HIV/AIDS was eliminated from among the youths.

Mrs. Lawson said she was aware of gender challenges facing the state but promised to help ameliorate the suffering of women in that regard
