Suspension of Ika council boss illegal, says Kainji

By Festus Ahon
UGHELLI — A chieftain of the Action Congress (AC) in Delta State, Mr. Aluge-Obia Kainji has described as illegal the suspension of the Ika South Local Government Council Chairman, Mr. Hilary Ibude, by Delta State House of Assembly
According to him, the suspension is not only illegal, but also contrary to the law governing local government councils in the country.

Kainji, who contested Delta State House of Assembly election  in  2007 under AC, stated this while fielding questions from newsmen.

He said though he was not a member of the PDP that controls councils in the state, the suspension of elected officers must follow the Rule of Law.

According to him, “Before a local government chairman can be removed from office, there must be a resolution from the councillors to do so.”

“It goes a long way to show that the PDP administration in the council has lapsed. The Rule of law must be followed in this circumstance”.

Urging the State House of Assembly to take a second look at the suspension and put things right, Kainji stressed that he was not against the indictment of the chairman.

He said what he condemned was the manner the suspension was carried out, adding the chairman was suspended just because leader of the legislative arm was suspended.

“I pray that the crack in Ika South PDP grow higher to enable AC reclaim its mandates once the Court of Appeal rules.”
