Stop dealings with Obotete, Gbekebor community tells Delta govt, Agip

By Emma Arubi
WARRI — The Gbekebor Progressive Forum in Delta State has charged the state government and Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC0 not to have any land dealings with the people of Obotebe in Burutu Local Government Area of the state.

The Forum also urged the state government to convene a meeting between both communities to resolve contending issues relating to land in the area.

In a statement signed by the President, Michael Ezonfade, the forum maintained that the land on which Agip Oil does its business was their community’s.

It contended that Obotete people have no stake around where NAOC currently operates the Grangbene Deep A location well, and cautioned the company not to have any financial dealings with them.

“Agip should put on hold any financial engagement they have entered into with the Obotebe people pending when NAOC and the state government identify and recognise Gbekebor as the real owners of the land in question. Obotebe people are mere settlers in the land,” the forum said.
