Police parade 25 suspected criminals

Umuahia—ABIA State Police Command,  yesterday paraded 25 criminal suspects, including two policemen from the command.

The suspects were involved in crimes,  ranging from armed robbery, kidnapping, unlawful possession of fire arms and ammunition, gun manufacturing and gun running.

According to the Abia State Police Commissioner, Mr. Jonathan Johnson, who paraded the suspects, various types of fire arms and ammunition and other items were recovered from the suspects.

Meanwhile, the Abia Police Command has promised a N2 million reward to any person who volunteers useful information that would lead to the arrest of those behind the killing of Mr. Vanloom Tom, a national of Netherlands and staff of WVL Intersteel  Construction Company, a subsidiary of the company in charge of the gas plant at Alaoji Power Plant, Aba.

Vanloom was said to have gone to one of the eateries in the city, but was killed by unknown hoodlums. Though, according to the Police Commissioner, the expatriate had police escort but the fire power of the hoodlums overpowered that of the police escort attached to him.

While investigation into the matter had been intensified, Johnson said “the command is placing a N2m reward for any useful informant,  that would lead to the arrest of the hoodlums. Such informant is advised to make himself available or report to the Commissioner of Police or his Deputy for effective management of the information”.

Johnson announced that the suspects arrested for gun manufacturing and gun running,  were the suppliers of arms and ammunition to criminals in the state.

On the alleged threat by kidnappers, that they would start kidnapping school children, the Police Commissioner called on the people to ignore such threat but urged them to be vigilant and report any suspected movement to the police.
