OWERRI—The Governor of Imo State, Dr. Ikedi Ohakim has commended Muslims in the state for their peaceful disposition and industry, which he said has enhanced the development of the state.

In his Eld-El-Kabir goodwill message, Governor Ohakim urged Muslims in Imo State and Nigeria in general, to use this period to reflect on the various challenges facing the country, adding that now is the time for all to be counted on their contributions to the development of Nigeria, especially now that the world is passing through economic meltdown and political tests.

The Governor in the message by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Henry Ekpe, said, “this is a time for all to have a sober reflection and think of what we can do for Nigeria, and not what Nigeria can do for us.”

Governor Ohakim commended the peaceful co-existence that exists between Muslims in Imo State and their counterparts of other religions, pointing out that “each and every one of us belong to one God and therefore should pray for peace in Nigeria”.

He said that both Christianity and Islam represent peace and love and asked all Muslims in Nigeria to use this period to pray for Allah to protect our leaders.

Governor Ohakim assured all Muslims resident in Imo of adequate security of their lives and property, adding that soon, a workshop would be organised for the reorientation of herdsmen in the state, to avoid clashes with their host communities.

He asked them to buy into the Clean and Green programme of his administration by keeping their environments clean at all times.
