MAKIA’s ultra-modern domestic terminal building ready for commissioning

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has concluded work on the ultra-modern domestic terminal building of Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport in Kano.

This comes as the airport has emerged the best managed federal airport in the country.Although contract for the reconstruction of the terminal building was awarded as far back as 2001, the project was not to be completed until a few weeks ago, as the job was repeatedly abandoned by the contractor due to lack of funds.

A statement issued by FAAN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Mr. Akin Olukunle, said the new terminal building would be commissioned soon.

Olukunle said work had also commenced on the construction of a new control tower for the airport, especially as it is one of the nation’s four international airports where the total radar coverage of Nigeria (TRACON) is to be installed.

According to him, the project, which is awarded to Dan Makarfi Construction Company last July, would be completed next month.
Olukunle said the completion of the new control tower would pave way for installation of a Safe Tower facility at the airport.
Meanwhile, the airport has been selected as the best managed federal airport in the country.

The airport was selected from the 22 federal airports in the country at the recently concluded Nigeria Aviation International Expo Conference and Awards in Abuja. MAKIA clinched the best managed airport in the country for the discipline and dedication of its staff.

The award, the third in its series, is given on an annual basis for outstanding services towards the development of Nigeria aviation and air transport, with the sole objective of increasing adherence to best practices and promotion of positive competition in quality service delivery in the industry. In selecting winners for the awards, the organizer of the event carried out quality checks in the industry through opinion sampling and public requests for nomination.

After rigorous screening and selection process, MAKIA was given the award after meeting the criteria set by the organizers.
The Regional Manager, MAKIA, Muhammed Ali-Knock, attributed the award to the support the airport received from the Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority Nigeria, Mr. Richard Aisuebeogun said. He said:  “The management and entire staff of Mallam Aminu Kano international Airport are, therefore, very proud of the Award.
