THE second edition of the Abia International Trade Fair, in Aba pennultimate week was another opportunity for the Second National Telecommunications operator, Globacom to connect itself with the robust business climate ofÂ the South East and in particular, Abia state.
Last year, Globacom partnered with the Umuahia Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (UCCIMA), organisers of the Fair and according to the telecom company, the success of that first outing made the renewal of the sponsorship imperative.
For this year, the organization was a joint effort between Umuahia Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (UCCIMA) and Aba Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (ABCCIMA) and Globacom revealed that it decided to support the organization of the second edition this year so as to sustain its relationship with this key segments of the Nigerian business community.
The Group Chief Operating Officer of Globacom, Mr Mohamed Jameel, said that Globacom was making a return to sponsor the Fair due to the success of the 2008 edition. He added that the sponsorship underscored the premium Globacom placed on the Abia International Trade Fair.
For Globacom, it was not a bad business, anyway, because its pavilion was a beehive of activities throughout the duration of the Fair as subscribers and visitors had a thrilling time either to purchase Glo products or to configure their phones for the numerous value added services.
Globacom had plenty of give-away for its subscribers and visitors to its pavilion, including T-Shirts, Caps, Bandanas etc. There were also handsets and scores of recharge cards.
Speaking at the event, Chief Operating Officer, Globacom, Mr Mohammed Jameel, expressed satisfaction with the level of business coming from the fair and promised Glo subscribers that the company would not relent in carrying out the vision that brought it into telecom business in Nigeria.
Jameel who was represented by the Aba Regional Manager of the company,Â Mr Valentine Ossai, said that Globacom was already rolling out services in â€œareas where telecommunications services have never reached while we are also expanding our capacity in places already coveredâ€.
He said that the company has been offering leadership in the telecoms industry with its role in introducing cutting edge technology and services for the benefit of Nigerians. He used the opportunity to reaffirm Globacomâ€™s commitment to continuously contribute to the rapid development of Nigeria through the provision of telecommunications services for the people at affordable rates.
The Globacom GCOO also expressed optimism that many businesses in the South East region would benefit immensely from the â€œmulti million dollar trans atlantic submarine cable system, Glo-1, which recently landed in Lagos and Accra.
â€œGlo1 will usher in a new era of prosperity in Africa by offering cheap, fast and reliable international calls, unprecedented fast access to the internet and revolutionary data transfer.
The good news is that the project has enough capacity to cater for Nigeriaâ€™s broadband requirements for at least the next 15 to 20 yearsâ€ he said.
Relishing the success story of Globacom in the country in the last six years, he said â€œthe story of our phenomenal growth is the story of the commitment of our subscribers to remain with us due to the superior products and services on the Glo networkâ€. He also noted that as a stakeholder in Nigeria, Globacom would always be pleased to support efforts geared towards moving the economy forward and helping the people succeed.

The Glo Day event was also an opportunity for subscribers to appreciate Globacom for its effort in making life better for the people of Nigeria. Many of the guests and subscribers at the event commended Globacom for its life transforming promotional activities, especially the ongoing â€˜text 4 million promo, which has been making millionaires out of Glo subscribers.
In the last few years, Globacom has been actively participating in trade fairs and exhibitions across the country. It has registered its presence in all the key fairs across Nigeria.
