Family drags Chevron to court over alleged diversion of compensation

By Austin Ogwuda

Asaba — MEMBERS of Esionwun family of Ubagira, Ugborodo Escravos in Delta State, have dragged management of Chevron Nigeria Limited before Asaba Federal High Court, seeking to restrain the company from having any dealing with Ugborodo Community Trust in respect of compensation to the family.

Augustine Ayavoro sued for himself and on behalf of members of Esionwun family.

The family is claiming that “it is undisputed fact that for the past decades, the 1st defendant (Chevron) has been using the plaintiff family land for various oil and gas projects which includes oil flow stations, oil tank farms, gas pipeline projects, gas-to-liquid projects and the 1st defendant has continuously been paying compensation monies to the 2nd defendant (Ugborodo Community Trust) in respect of the said oil and gas projects that are been carried out in the plaintiff family land.”

The plaintiff, therefore, sought, among other reliefs,  “an order directing and compelling the 1st defendant (Chevron) to pay the plaintiff directly all such monies meant for compensation over the land called and known as Ubagira in Ugborodo community.”

The matter has been fixed for hearing December 16.
