Nicholas Ukadike,   has commended the Golden Eaglets on their performance in the on-going FIFA U-17 World Cup, saying they could only have done so because of love for the country giving all problems that beset the team in the lead up to the competition.

The former Spartans of Owerri, Nationale and Abiola Babes top striker, who noted the high team spirit exhibited by the players, said they have done so much to uplift the name of the country.

“ It could have been worse but I think the players have given their all as anything less could have been disastrous because going into this competition, the boys came under so much pressure, having in mind poor performances of the senior teams, the MRI test that knocked out most of the team members just before the competition started. Thanks to God, the coach in charge rallied round to put up a new team to save the country’s face. If not by now the team would have been abandoned by fans had it been the Eaglets did not fight hard to save our face with good performance by getting into the quarter final now,” he said.

Ukadike, who is in the coaching crew of Lagos based BRF FC, expressed high hopes the team would go further in the competition, saying it would justify all efforts put up by Nigerians in hosting the world.

“I want to also charge them not to relent but to see if they could carry the country’s flag further in the competition, as football is an act of joy to Nigerians. I hope they are able to enter the final and win the cup for us. If not I want to personally thank them for coming this far.

I am proud of the high sprit of sportsmanship exhibited by them. I’m also happy about the standard of play in this competition.  Lastly, I want to commend Governor Fashola for the high interest, commitment and resources channeled into the Lagos centre for he has left  a legacy that would last for a long time to come.” he added.
